David Warner likens himself to Virat Kohli for on-field spats

Australia batter and Delhi Capitals’ skipper, David Warner has compared himself to India batter and former skipper Virat Kohli.

Apparently, both these players have a history of being firey on the cricket field whenever someone taunts or disturbs them.

According to Warner, these on-field battles help him and Kohli put their best versions forward in cricket.

Recently, Kohli was also fined 100% of his match fee when he quarreled with Gautam Gambhir. But, the incident has had no changes to Kohli’s attitude.

Moreover, both Warner and Kohli are challenge lovers and like to engage with other players who encourage them into these arguments.

Both these players then set the opponent straight with their mouths and also with the power of their bats.

On the other hand, Warner has had spats with the likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Rohit Sharma, and even Quinton de Kock.

Warner says these spats improve his footwork and he’s able to play his shots

Meanwhile, Warner has also explained the after-effects of these on-field fights on a player’s mental health.

He believes that these scuffles help his footwork a lot and allow him to go out there and express himself and play his natural shots.

Says Warner,

Myself and Virat, we get energy off people talking to us or coming at us. If you’re coming at us, that’s the fight and we are in. It’s not about proving a point to anyone. You just get in and your feet start moving and you play your shots. Then you say, ‘Thanks mate, you got me in.’

Therefore, both these players wear their hearts on their sleeves when playing cricket.

Talking about Delhi Capitals’ performance this season in the IPL, then they have failed to qualify for the playoffs this year.

Skipper Warner was not producing many runs while his middle-order batters were already in poor form.

Meanwhile, the team decided to change many combinations but those too didn’t reap many rewards this season.

The thing that DC missed most this season was the absence of Rishabh Pant. Pant used to stabilize their sinking ship with his quick scoring toward the end of a game.

In the bowling department, barring Axar Patel and Ishant Sharma, none of the other bowlers were much effective against the opposition.

Therefore, DC will again go in for the IPL Auctions next year and try to procure some quality players for their side so that they go in hard next year.
