Denzel Dumfries was ‘flattered’ by interest from Chelsea in the summer transfer window

Denzel Dumfries is “flattered” to know that a team like Chelsea wanted to sign him in the transfer window. Chelsea had expressed an interest in signing Dumfries in the summer as a replacement for Ceasar Azpilicueta. However, since Azpilicueta decided to stay at Chelsea for two more years, the interest in Dumfries cooled off. Moreover, Inter Milan was unwilling to sell Dumfries in the transfer window. Manchester United had also expressed an interest in signing Dumfries last season.

Dumfries joined Inter Milan from PSV Eindhoven last year. Since his arrival, he has slotted right into the starting eleven. Now, following his brilliant performance, he has an undisputed place in the starting eleven. Speaking to De Telegraaf (reported by Absolute Chelsea on Twitter), Dumfries said:

“The interest flatters me, of course. But my focus now is only on Inter. We want to win the Scudetto because we lost it last season.”

Dumfries plays as a right-wing back in Inter Milan. His tenacity and energy will be a huge boost for Chelsea should he decide to join them. Dumfries is the type of player that the new manager likes, versatile, quick with good technical ability. So it will not be a surprise if Chelsea goes after Dumfries in the next transfer window. However, Inter manager Simone Inzaghi will be unwilling to let this move happen. Dumfries is a major player in the squad. Losing him in the window will severely hurt their chances of winning the Scudetto. Inter lost Hakimi and Perisic from their ranks due to their transfer to PSG and Tottenham. As such, another high-profile transfer in the form of Denzel Dumfries will hurt their ambitions.
