India has already sealed the West India Twenty 20 series by 4-1! Ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup, India hopefully have got an idea of the probable squad. Deepak Hooda indeed have done an impressive job, but the likes of Rahul and Kohli may shake his spot a bit. Kohli, even though facing a batting lump is unlike to be missed out. However, management will better try than to leave Shreyas Iyer from the mix. But KL Rahul’s fitness will definitely be a concern. Moreover, Rahul missed International Cricket for a long time.
Rahul was omitted from the Indian squad in the ODI series against Zimbabwe ODIs keeping in mind his hamstring injury. If the injury is triggered, it could also impede KL’s chances in the World T20. Danish Kaneria, a former Pakistan tweaker thinks that the Indian batter could have been counted in as a standby player in the coming Asia Cup.
Dinesh Kaneria, while speaking on his youtube channel, said,
“KL Rahul is a player who can play at any number. He is a fantastic fielder who can also do wicket-keeping. However, he has not played an international match since his injury.”
Kaneria added,
“I’ve kept KL Rahul on stand-by because he has not played after the injury. You cannot start with him in such a big tournament after a long break. So give him some time till the T20 World Cup.”
‘Aim to recover and be available for selection as soon as I can.’: Rahul
Previously Rahul had written on his Twitter where he explained his inability to tour with India. He clarified his absence in the upcoming white-ball tour. He wrote,
“Hey guys. I wanted to clarify a couple of things about my health and fitness.”
He further wrote,
“My surgery in June was successful, and I had begun training with the hope of returning to national duty for the team’s tour of West Indies. Unfortunately, as I was nearing a return to full fitness, I tested positive for Covid-19. This naturally pushed things back by a couple of weeks, but I aim to recover as quickly as possible and be available for selection as soon as I can.”
Rahul has been going through treatments in Germany. He suffered from a groin injury and thus couldn’t play the home series against South Africa. Rahul will be back to NCA for training soon after his rehabilitation.
