Dinesh Karthik analyses India’s bowling attack ahead of WTC Final

Cricket

India wicket-keeper batter, Dinesh Karthik has recently analyzed the bowling attack of the Indian side before the all-important WTC Final.

After the completion of the IPL, all of India’s players are now gearing up for the Aussie challenge in England that starts on the 7th of June.

Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik will be a part of the commentary panel during the tournament and he has perfectly thought about India’s selection of bowlers.

While India’s batters are in top form for the tournament, it is the bowling unit that Karthik is more worried about.

He has stated that India will be rather uncertain about having two spinners in the starting XI as the plan backfired two years ago against New Zealand.

In the first edition of the WTC, then India skipper, Virat Kohli decided to go with Ashwin and Jadeja as the two spinners but they remained under bowled for the rest of the game.

Says Karthik,

I think it will be a very brave call to even play two (spinners)- Ashwin and Jadeja together. It might come down to a stage where, are they going to look at just the one spin option and an extra fast-bowling all-round option in Shardul Thakur or are they going to go with two spinners? It will be an answer which will be easier said closer to the day of the match.

Adding further, he says,

The conditions will dictate whether they’re going to go in with two spinners. I remember very vividly the last time they did feel that they had made an error by playing both the spinners in the Southampton Test match (2021 World Test Championship final) which didn’t probably aid spin much and both of them were under-bowled.

Dinesh Karthik feels Bumrah’s loss is a big blow for India

Meanwhile, star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is not going to feature in this competition as he is still recovering from his back surgery.

Karthik says that the unavailability of Bumrah is a rather big one for the Men in Blue as they will have to be content with the available options.

However, pacers like Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami are in great form and will be great assets for India.

While Karthik wants Shardul Thakur to play in the WTC Final, he says the fourth bowling option could be from Jaydev Unadkat and Umesh Yadav.

Jasprit Bumrah is a huge miss for any team and in any format as he’s a force to reckon with but a couple of key bowlers are in great form in Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami who have bowled really well throughout the IPL. They have Shardul Thakur in the squad, who I’m pretty sure has a great chance of playing, while the fourth (seaming) option again will be between Umesh Yadav and Jaydev Unadkat.
