Dunphy suggests Tottenham defender is quite similar to Virgil van Dijk

Tottenham Hotspur

Pundit Eamon Dunphy suggests Tottenham Hotspur defender Micky van de Ven is quite similar to Liverpool centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

Speaking on The Stand, Dunphy claims Van de Ven have similar attributes to that of Van Dijk. Tottenham dealt a huge blow on Monday, as the centre-back was forced off with a hamstring injury against 4:1 defeat against Chelsea.

The 22-year-old has been a phenomenal for Spurs in this current campaign. Tottenham signed him from German outfit Wolfsburg in the summer transfer window.

Meanwhile, Glen Hoddle praised Van de Ven ahead of Tottenham’s clash against Chelsea. The pundits suggests that the youngster has got “everything in his locker”.

During this early stages, the Dutchman’s impact at Tottenham has been quite exceptional. Hence, there are quite concerns over how the club will cope with his absence for rest of the campaign.

Dunphy also believes Tottenham will be a mess without Van de Ven in this campaign.

Dunphy compares the youngster with Van Dijk

Eamon Dunphy broadly discussed Van de Ven’s injury and he also compared him with Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. He said :-

“Van de Ven, who is an outstanding centre-half, Dutch, got all the quality if you like that Van Dijk has, much younger of course, quick, very good on the ball, very good defender.

“He pulled up with a hamstring on the stroke of half-time which incidentally was 12 minutes after the normal 45.

“It was high up his hamstring, which are the bad ones.”

Virgil van Dijk has been one of the best centre-backs in the world in last couple of campaigns despite his dip in form lately. The Dutchman helped Liverpool to rebuild their backline since arriving from Southampton in 2018.

Its huge for a defender being compared with Van Dijk at this early stage of his career. Van de Ven formed a promising partnership with Christian Romero in this current campaign.

Spurs will be hoping a speedy recovery for Van de Ven after such a brilliant start to his career in Premier League.
