Enzo Fernandez deal has been explained by Chelsea owners

Chelsea owners have finally commented on why they broke all transfer records for Enzo Fernandez. They broke the Premier League records to sign Enzo Fernandez. The signing was finally completed on Wednesday for a £106.8m deal. Chelsea have been interested in the player since the beginning of the transfer window. The signing broke both club and national’s transfer records. Chelsea have broken their own record while signing Fernandez. Reports suggest that both Chelsea chiefs decided to sign him after seeing his performance at the Qatar World Cup. This interest embarked on weeks of negotiations between Benfica and Chelsea. Both clubs had to hold talks for a long time before finally agreeing on the deadline. Enzo Fernandez acknowledged the huge sum paid on his first interview as a Chelsea player.

Chelsea chief explained why they paid £106.8m for Enzo Fernandez

The player have acknowledged the huge sum spent for him to join the Blues. However now Boehly and Eghbali have released a joint statement regarding this. The statement said,

“In Enzo we are signing a World Cup-winner and one of the brightest talents in global football. We are excited to add him to Graham’s [Potter, manager] squad and we are sure he will form an important part of our team going forward.”

They further added,

“Enzo has demonstrated his ability at the very highest levels so we’re looking forward to seeing what he will do in Chelsea blue!”

The Blues were on a brink of signing Enzo Fernandez earlier this month. But those talks collapsed after both clubs failed to come to an agreement. Benfica were keen to make the player stay at the club. Chelsea revived their interest in Enzo Fernandez just before the end of the transfer window. Benfica then finally agreed to Chelsea’s offer to pay the release clause for Enzo Fernandez in four installments.

The Blues were in a dire need of a midfielder. Therefore Enzo Fernandez was their priority signing this January transfer window. With N’Golo Kante’s contract coming to an end by the end of the season, the Blues will be looking for potential midfielders to fill up his place. Fernandez is set to make his debut in the match against Fulham.
