Manchester United boss Erik Ten Hag sounded confident when he said that his main target this season would be getting back to Champions League. The Dutchman has now officially taken over the Red Devils from Ralf Rangnick. United finished the season in the sixth position in the Premier League.
Ten Hag attended the United’s last match against Crystal Palace which they lost 1-0. However, they still qualified for Europa League next season. United carried their agonizing form in the League Cups as well. In the EFL, they were knocked out in the third round whereas they exited the FA Cup in the fourth round.
Ten Hag, however, won two Dutch Cups during his tenure at Ajax. Moreover, he also highlighted the importance of the other League Cups besides the Premier League.
The incoming coach said to MUTV, “For me, every game is important.” “We want to win every game and that has to be the attitude from everyone: players, but also staff and all the other ones in the club. Every game is important and we will give our best in every game to win and to come forward.”
What does Erik Ten Hag say about his mission at Manchester United?
He sounded optimistic when he said that United could take on Manchester City and Liverpool.
Ten Hag told reporters, “In this moment I admire them [Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp]. I admire them both. They play, in this moment, really fantastic football – both Liverpool and Manchester City.”
“But you will always see that an era can come to an end. I am looking forward to battling with them and I am sure all the other clubs in the Premier League will want to do that.”
However, Ten Hag did confess that it would take time for the Red Devils to be back at the top flight of football.
“I said this is the project, to bring Man United back on top, but also we have to accept the current situation we are in.” “First of all, Man United belong in the Champions League, so that will be the first target.”
