Erik Ten Hag wants Netherlands International Stefan de Vrij for Manchester United‘s leaky defense. It’s another name that is linked with United for the January transfer.

The 30-year-old Centre back is playing of Inter Milan but is out of contract at the end of the season.
According to the Italian source Calcio Mercato, at least 3 Inter players could be put up for sale next month including de Vrij.

Ten Hag wants Stefan de Vrij for United’s leaky defense

One of the biggest obstacles for Manchester United last season was their spotty defense. The team has conceded a total of 57 goals in the 21/22 Premier League season.

And that prompted new manager Erik ten Hag to focus on improving the defense immediately after his appointment. The Dutchman did exactly that, bringing in Lisandro Martinez from his former club Ajax.

United’s Shaky Defense

Red Devil’s two Centre backs Raphael Varane and Harry Maguire are struggling with their problems. Varane struggling with his injuries and Maguire is out of form. United’s hunt for a solid CB is still going on. The addition of Lisandro was obviously a smart move but they didn’t want to stop there. This January there’s a major chance that United will bid for de Vrij.

Contract extension

De Vrij is most likely to leave in the summer but Inter Milan wants to keep him. The January window could be Inter’s best chance to get a transfer fee from his sale.

Inter Milan would demand around €10M, a figure that is not very high, but not low either, considering the length of the Dutch international’s contract.

The report claims that United boss Ten Hag, described in the report as a “technician with a great knowledge of Dutch football“, could “dive right into” a possible opportunity to sign De Vrij at a bargain price.

According to the English Source, The Telegraph, United boss Ten Hag has already been given the green light over potential January signings.

However, United are expected to focus on signing a new right-back as Aaron Wan-Bissaka may be allowed to leave the club.
