Everton are reportedly interested in adding Donny van de Beek to their roster in January. Since joining Manchester United, the Dutch midfielder has battled for playing time, having just played 16 minutes in the Premier League so far this season.

Van van Beek joined Manchester United for £35 million from Ajax in September 2020. But he is now linked with several other teams due to his poor treatment at the club. Everton is reportedly interested in signing him on a loan deal until the end of the season in the upcoming January transfer market, according to ESPN.

Everton inquired about Donny Van de Beek late in the summer transfer window but the toffees were informed that the Dutchman is not up for sale. Despite this, the 24-year-old has only played five times under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season. While a January move looks to be on the cards.

The Blues have Van de Beek on their list of prospective targets for when the transfer window opens. But they are gathering information on the Dutch international before choosing whether or not to pursue him further.

In recent weeks, one of the topics of conversation between manager Rafa Benitez, director of football Marcel Brands has been about strengthening their midfield. Benitez has also mentioned the need to strengthen alternatives on the wing. As well as the necessity to find a long-term replacement for right-back Seamus Coleman.

However, given the limits imposed on the club by financial fair play laws. The Everton manager is presently operating on the assumption that his budget will only allow for loan deals in the January window. If the club can unload more peripheral players, such as Cenk Tosun. The manager will have greater discretion to try to enhance the group.

Will Donny Van de Beek improve the midfield of Everton?

In 2020, Donny van de Beek was one of the most sought-after transfer targets. He was a member of the Ajax class of 2019/20, which finished with a spectacular Champions League run. In 37 games with de Joden last season, he scored 10 goals and assisted 11 times in all competitions.

In the summer, the Merseyside team lost James Rodrguez. Under former manager Carlo Ancelotti, who left the club to rejoin Real Madrid, the Columbian was a significant player. As a result, the Toffees have had a difficult season and now sit in 11th position in the Premier League. However, they may improve their appearance by injecting new legs.

Currently, Everton lacks a creative midfielder who can help transition the ball from the midfield to the attack. Due to this, the club has taken the approach to play in a counter-attacking system. Donny can help Everton by spreading the play to each part of the field. Due to his vision, the player can play as a hybrid between a number 8 and a number 10. With such versatility, the player could help Everton deploy a 4-2-3-1 or a 4-3-3 formation. While he can hopefully bring some good times for the toffee fans.
