FABIO VIERA-ARSENAL TRANSFER SAGA FULL STORY

The 22-year-old Viera will become Mikel Arteta’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The first signing was Marquinhos the exciting winger from Sao Paulo. Although, Fabio Viera will be the first major signing for Mikel Arteta’s side. The Portuguese giants confirmed a £34m sale relatively out of the blue.

The midfielder has promised himself to work, work, work after his dream move to the Premier League. He is a very key player for Porto. He scored 6 goals and provided 14 assists in 27 Liga appearances as Porto reclaimed the title from Sporting Lisbon. However, a number of former presidential candidates are not happy with the club’s decision to sell the Portuguese midfielder.

THE CRITICISM OF PORTO’S OWNER

Last week, another former presidential candidate in the shape of Fernando Rio suggested Porto should not have accepted a fee lower than Fabio’s release clause believed to be around €50m (roughly £42.3m).

He also said the departure of the midfielder will have an impact on the future of manager Sergio Conceicao. Now as the deal draws even closer, Lobo told reporters that” he did not even understand the decision to sell Viera for the fee in question. He said the idea of him leaving for so little was both ridiculous and unbelievable“.

Whatever the reason Porto had to sell, it is quite evident Arsenal have got a bargain. The U-21 Portuguese midfielder is described by media as extremely talented and determined. Although, Mikel Arteta has done extensive scouting on him before signing him. Arsenal are looking at the midfielder as an investment for the future.
