Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed Chelsea’s recent transfer rumour. Although Chelsea have signed two forwards this summer, The Blues are in strong need of a few more attackers in their rebuilding squad. Chelsea have been linked to multiple strikers over the course of this summer, but have failed to sign any of them. With the injury of Christopher Nkunku, who is supposed to be Chelsea’s main striker, their attack has lacked quality. Therefore, Chelsea are in desperate need of quickly signing a forward, before the transfer window closes.
A recent rumour has hinted that Chelsea are planning a transfer for the French youngster, Bradley Barcola. The talented youngster plays for the Ligue 1 club Lyon. Bradley has been turning a lot of heads thanks to his spectacular performance in the Ligue 1. With Chelsea searching for versatile attackers, Bradley can be the ideal player for them. However, a transfer for Barcola wouldn’t be easy as the French champions Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly, already made a move to sign the 20-year old winger.
What makes Chelsea interested in Bradley Barcola?
Fabrizio Romano confirmed Chelsea’s interest in Barcola via his social media handles. Reportedly, Chelsea have turned their attention towards some other forwards, including Barcola, after failing to sign Michael Olise. Chelsea’s interest in Olise was quite strong. They looked in a good position to sign the Englishman, despite stiff competition from Man City. However, due to some unknown reasons, the deal fell off at the last moment.
Chelsea’s interest in Barcola is sudden yet very understandable. The 20-year old winger is a young talent with massive potential. Barcola has come through Lyon’s academy system. His impactful displays at the junior level helped him secure a place in the senior team in the 2021/22 season. Since then, his performances have been nothing but impressive. Barcola has established himself as one of the most important players in the Lyon squad.
Described as ‘one of the best talents in his position in the world‘ by Romano, Barcola is a magnificent forward with amazing qualities. He mainly plays out wide in the wings. His versatility allows him to play well in both the wings. Barcola is gifted with incredible speed, which is combined with great dribbling ability, making him a ‘lethal‘ player in the wings. He is even a strong carrier of the ball. All his abilities make him ‘unstoppable‘ in the counter attacks. Even though Barcola has mostly played in wide positions, his qualities as an attacker can allow him to thrive in other positions as well.
Will The Blues compete with PSG?
With the qualities and the talent that Barcola possesses, Chelsea’s interest seems quite justified. A talented and a versatile attacker like Barcola seems ideal for them. Even though Barcola would have to play in a central role in Pochettino’s system, his versatile playing style can allow him to play well in that position as well.
Chelsea could be seen making a move for the French forward, despite PSG being the favourites to sign him. Therefore, we could witness a bidding war between both the clubs for Bradley Barcola in the upcoming days.
