Rio Ferdinand reveals the real reason behind Jude Bellingham not opting to join Manchester United as he was not given assurance over a first-team place.
Bellingham has established himself as one of the brightest star in world football currently. The midfielder has been in top form since joining Real Madrid in the summer transfer window.
The 20-year-old has scored 13 goals so far in this campaign since joining from German outfit Borrusia Dortmund. Bellingham also won the Kopa Trophy at 2023 Ballon d’Or awards.
However, United once had a great chance to sign Bellingham back in 2020, but the move didn’t materialise. They even brought Sir Alex Ferguson to speak with the midfielder and his parents during a tour of club’s training ground.
But, Bellingham opted to join Borrusia Dortmund as the German club signed him for a fee of £22.5 million from Birmingham City.
Ferdinand lifted up the lid on why Bellingham didn’t join Manchester United
Rio Ferdinand reveals the real reason behind Bellingham’s snub and further said :-
“Do you know what I heard it was… he [Bellingham] wanted some assurances about being a first-team player.
” However United weren’t willing to give him those assurances, that’s what I heard from a very good source.
“He wasn’t also given assurances of being around the first team and he’s said, ‘do you know what, I know my worth, I know my value and if you don’t value me the way I see myself I’m going to have to jog on and go to another club’.
“He’s gone and done that and he’s turned round and gone. ‘I told you guys, you didn’t believe me did you?’.
“But now he’s gone Real Madrid and he’s tearing down Real Madrid. He’s turning down the Bernabeu, they’ve just rebuilt it and he’s tearing it down! Unbelievable.”
