Finch believes that R Ashwin can be the magic key for Australia in WTC

Former Australian player, Aaron Finch has recently given his opinion on India’s choice of spinner ahead of the WTC.

Meanwhile, both India and Australia are sweating it out at The Oval for the all-important clash set to take place in 2 days’ time.

Furthermore, India has a bigger headache than Australia in terms of picking their final XI as they have to choose between R Ashwin, Jadeja, and Shardul Thakur.

However, Finch feels that if India picks Ashwin ahead of Jadeja, it can work wonders for Australia as it will give them a slight advantage.

This is because Ashwin’s bowling will create some rough which can be useful for Nathan Lyon. Also, he will be benefitted from Starc’s footmarks.

Says Finch,

If they pick Ashwin, that will help them, Jadeja bowling about the middle of the wicket probably won’t make much of a difference. So, maybe slight advantage [for Australia in WTC final], but maybe just.

Moreover, Finch also talked about the condition of The Oval pitch and stated that it can become quite dry during the final days of the game.

Additionally, he has also said that if he were to play in this tournament, he would have chosen to bat first.

The Oval wicket can get flat through days three and four but can dry up and spin at the back of the game. I think I’ll bat first if it’s a decent-looking surface. So, I don’t think you need to overcomplicate it. I am sure Pat Cummins doesn’t overcomplicate much and neither is Rohit Sharma.

Finch sure of Australia’s victory; India look to win and extend dominance

Meanwhile, this is India’s consecutive WTC final as they will look to extend their dominance over Australia and win the mace.

Unfortunately, they lost by 8 wickets to New Zealand during the first edition of the tournament after completing the 2019-21 cycle.

On the other hand, this is Australia’s first-ever WTC final and they too will look to make the most of it. They finished third in the 2019-21 cycle.

Also, India has the upper hand over Australia in Tests as they have won the last four series.

But, they are also missing the crucial services of Jasprit Bumrah and Rishabh Pant which could have been vital for them in this tournament.

That’s why Australia is looking a solid favorite to win this title.
