Former red bull employee discusses the challenge for the next season

Ferrari 2023

Red bull has got a penalty for the upcoming season due to a budget breach they committed during the 2021 season.

Following months of investigation, FIA found red bull guilty of a minor budget breach. The Milton Keynes-based squad went over the 2021 budget cap. This resulted in consequences with the governing body awarding penalties to the team for the breach.

Red bull received a fee-paying 7 million dollars in fines accompanied by restrictions on the wind tunnel testing for the 2023 season. The fee won’t be affecting the side this much. However, it is the aerodynamic penalty that everyone is looking up to. The team will get 10% less time in wind tunnel testing which holds the capability of affecting the team’s 2023 title challenge. However, how badly it might affect remains a question given the dominance shown by the side this year.

Former red bull aerodynamicist Dan Fallows does not doubt that the penalties will disappoint his former employers. The now Aston Martin technical director said:

“It’s difficult to say [the impact] because I’m not there anymore, but I’ve no doubt that from the engineering side, they’ll feel that that’s a disappointment,”

Fallows told the reporters.

“I think, personally, I would take it as any other challenge that you get given in this business. It’s something you have to deal with. It’s a restriction.”

“They do have, as a result of being very successful, fewer wind tunnel runs and CFD capability than other teams anyway, and that’s just a challenge you have to deal with. I think in any situation like that you just regroup and get on with it.”

Red bull completely dominated the 2022 season winning both drivers and the constructors championships.
