Gabriel Magalhaes has become one of the trusted players in Arteta’s squad. He has been an integral part of Arsenal’s title challenge this season.
The Brazilian arrived in North London from French side LOSC Lille for around £23m in 2019. Despite his inconsistent start to life in Premier League, he has now formed a strong partnership with William Saliba as one of the best CB pairings this season. Gabriel is having a major impact on this Gunners team this term and has a great future ahead.
Kevin Campbell termed him a “rock” for his underwhelming strength. Gabriel has made 103 appearances for Arsenal and scored 10 goals, which is an impressive tally for a Centre-back. This season he has made 33 appearances for the club across all competitions
Moreover, Arsenal has the second-best defensive record in Premier League this term behind Newcastle United.
However, as per CIES Football Observatory, he is now worth £62m which is three times more than his actual transfer value. Also as per FBref, Gabriel also ranks among the top of 13% of Centre-backs with non-penalty goals per 90 in Europe’s top five leagues over the past year.
JOSE ENRIQUE TERMS GABRIEL AS ONE OF THE MOST UNDERRATED DEFENDERS IN THR PREMIER LEAGUE
Last month, Former Liverpool legend Jose Enrique praised Gabriel for his heroics this season. He termed him “underrated” and further tweeted:-
“Gabriel Magalhaes from Arsenal [is the most underrated player in the Premier League].
“Everyone [is] talking about [William] Saliba because he is younger etc. but Gabriel has been the best centre-back in the league and he [is] still 25.”
However, he has all the qualities to become one of the best defenders in Premier League history and already started making his name in top-division football.
