Gary Neville tells Man United to move for Erling Haaland

Gary Neville has told former club Man United to move for Erling Haaland next summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports News, Neville called on manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make the deal happen. He also urged his former teammate to pair Haaland up front alongside Cristiano Ronaldo.

“If Haaland becomes available next summer and they want to do a deal with his agent – which is the big thing with Haaland – then Manchester United should go for him. And I don’t think Cristiano coming prevents Haaland joining.

“Cristiano has played with Karim Benzema, with Gareth Bale, with all these great Galacticos at Real Madrid. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wouldn’t put him on the bench, why would you put him on the bench? You can fit two strikers in a team, surely.”

Neville also suggested three players who could depart in order to free up space to bring the Norwegian striker to Old Trafford.

“I think Manchester United next year will lose probably Anthony Martial, they’ll lose Juan Mata (and) Edinson Cavani will leave because they got another year out of him. So it will free places to be filled.”

Haaland to Man United – A good move?

As previously reported by Manchester Evening News, Man United have pinpointed Haaland as their top target to secure a long-term face to lead the club’s attacking line.

United’s striking options were bolstered in the summer by Edinson Cavani’s extension  and the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo. However, the Uruguayan will depart next year, leaving a hole that Haaland could fill.

The Red Devils have historically always had some big-name strikers – United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer being one of them. It would be a dream come true for fans if the Dortmund man makes the move to Manchester and potentially becomes a United legend, following in the steps of his fellow Norwegian. The Old Trafford faithful would relish a goalscoring machine like Haaland.

The 21-year-old is among the most sought-after strikers in Europe. Haaland is said to have a release clause next summer of around £75 million and will be targeted by some of the biggest clubs.

Apart from Man United – Chelsea, Manchester City, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain also have their eye on Haaland.

Haaland is already off to a flying start in the new campaign for club and country. The striker has scored 13 goals in just nine appearances for Dortmund and Norway.
