Gautam Gambhir backs Ishan Kishan ahead of KL Rahul in the ODI World Cup 2023. Ishan Kishan is at No. 24th spot in the latest ICC Men’s ODI rankings.
GAUTAM GAMBHIR BACKS ISHAN KISHAN
Amidst the halt in the Asia Cup due to rain, a conversation between Gautam Gambhir and former cricketer Mohammad Kaif alongside Sports presenter Jatin Sapru regarding Ishan Kishan and Kl Rahul in the playing X1 for India for the World Cup erupted. While Mohammed kaif backed KL Rahul to play at No.5 spot ahead of Ishan Kishan, Gautam Gambhir, on the other hand, had contrary views to Md. Kaif.
Former start batsman of India, Gautam Gambhir, expressed his views on the preference among Ishan Kishan and KL Rahul. According to the legend, Ishan Kishan is ahead of KL Rahul in terms of performance. Gambhir added that Ishan Kishan is the best bet as he has always contributed to the team.
Gambhir on Star Sports stated
“Tell me something, what is more important to win a championship — name or form? If Rohit (Sharma) or Virat (Kohli) had scored something similar (four consecutive fifties), would you still say that KL Rahul would replace them?”
He further added
“The point is, when you’re gearing up to win the World Cup, you don’t see the name, you judge by their form. You choose the player who can perform and win you the World Cup. I feel Ishan Kishan has done everything he needs to do to be a frontrunner”
“Just because he is Ishan Kishan and hasn’t played a lot of international cricket, you’re saying that KL Rahul should play before him. But if Virat Kohli or Rohit Sharma were in place of Ishan Kishan, would KL Rahul be able to replace them? The answer is ‘no'”
