India started its campaign for the t20 World Cup in style. India defeated their arch-rivals Pakistan in a thriller ending. Indian team squad comprises 2 wicket-keepers – Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Kartik. Since the squads were declared there were controversies about whom to play in the playing XI. Recently Gautam Gambhir gave his view regarding this.

Gautam Gambhir’s statement:

In my playing XI, Rishabh Pant should play at No.5, Hardik Pandya at no.6, and Axar Patel at no.7. But what we have seen in the practice matches, Dinesh Karthik will play. But a player is not picked to play just 10 balls. You should pick a player so that he can bat at No.5 or 6. But Dinesh Karthik has not shown that intention. He and the team management have show the intention that he will bat only in the last 2-3 overs and that can be dangerous because in Australia, if you lose early wickets, you might have to send in Axar Patel early because you also wouldn’t want to expose Hardik early. That is why I picked Pant in my playing XI. But again that won’t happen.

Rishabh did not perform up to the mark whenever he was given chance in play XI. DK has good strike rate than him in the death overs. Moreover, he performed well in the last overs and also showcased even in IPL too. But Gautam feels that DK has been selected in the playing XI for the last 2-3 overs and Axar Patel has to be promoted if wickets fall early. Hardik has to play early in that case. In the case of Rishabh, there will be an additional left-handed batsman in the playing XI.
