Gavi set for contract extension with Barcelona

Pablo Gavi is one of the most exciting young talents in Europe currently. The player is just 17 years of age and is an integral part of the Barcelona and Spanish national teams. Gavi made his Spanish national team debut at the mere age of 17. He became the youngest ever player to score a goal for Spain in Spain’s victory over the Czech Republic in 2022. Gavi is one of the top players and young talents in football currently. He has a year left on his contract with Barcelona and negotiations are underway for a contract extension.

After months of deliberations and sidelining, Barcelona are finally set to make a contract extension offer to the youngster. According to Sport, Barcelona have practically agreed on most of the terms for a contract extension with Gavi. The only hiccup in the proceeding is Gavi’s current salary. The player makes a measly €100,000 ($107,000) a year which makes him the lowest paid player in the senior squad. Gavi is looking to increase his salary and contract length this summer. He wants a four-year contract with significant salary improvements. Gavi is holding out for a salary figure of €4 million in his first year of the contract. Moreover, the figure could go on to €6 million depending on the performance of the player.

Premier league clubs also interested in Gavi

Gavi has played with Barcelona since he was eleven years of age. His priority is to remain at Barcelona and play for the Catalan club. He is happy at Camp Nou and wants to progress further and further under Xavi. He is one of the players who is being touted as the future of Barcelona. In a meeting with the Barcelona board members , Laporta insisted that they were building a team and keeping young talents such as Nico, Gavi, Pedri and Aruajo is their top priority.

Liverpool and Chelsea have expressed their interest in acquiring the services of the player. According to multiple reports, Liverpool is ready to significantly improve Gavi’s salary and benefits. The Reds are ready to offer €9mn ($9.6mn) a year to the player. However, Gavi is adamant that his future lies with Barcelona and in Spain.
