Potter gives an update on Ben Chilwell’s injury

Chelsea lost their Champions League clash against Borussia Dortmund and were forced to substitute Ben Chilwell in the second half of the match. Chelsea boss Graham Potter has confirmed that the English defender needs to be checked after being substituted off at Signal Iduna Park on Wednesday.

Chilwell starts the match against Dortmund but g injures himself in the 70th minute of the game. Chelsea substituted him and Marc Cucurella came in his position.

This was Chilwell’s first start since November after he suffered a hamstring injury against Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League. He made only two substitute appearances against Fulham and West Ham before starting against Dortmund this week.

The 26-year-old might not be available on Saturday for Chelsea’s clash against Southampton in Premier League. Marc Cucurella will take his place in the playing eleven.

However, Potter gave an update about Chilwell in his Post-Match Conference:-

“About five minutes before he came off, he had a run down the side and had a kick on his ankle.

I haven’t checked it over but I think it’s more of a kick than anything else and probably a little bit of fatigue.

Graham Potter have a bunch of players who are in their treatment table. Former Southampton player Armando Broja will be out for the rest of the season due to an ACL injury sustained in December.

Christian Pulisic is also out due to a knee injury whereas, N’golo Kante might return to training at the end of February. Goalkeeper Eduardo Mendy has undergone surgery and will be out for some time. Raheem Sterling could start against Southampton on Saturday after missing the West Ham match last week due to a knee injury.
