Former India head coach and Australia player, Greg Chappel has recently kept his opinions on star batter Shubman Gill.

India and Australia are going to clash against each other at The Oval for the second edition of the World Test Championship final.

While Gill has tasted incredible success in all three formats of the game in the past seven months, Chappel says that he will have a tough time in English conditions.

According to him, if the Australians are able to make good use of the extra bounce and pace of the wicket early on, then Gill will be in trouble.

However, Chappel has also stated that Gill is an excellent player and will take Australia to the cleaners if they bowl poorly.

I don’t wanna go into too much detail, but I’m sure the Australians must have seen a couple of things that I have seen. There are little things that Shubman does a few things early in his innings that make him vulnerable to that length around off stump, and if the ball bounces a little bit extra, he will be susceptible to nicking off behind the wicket. But he’s a very good player. If they don’t bowl, he will punish them.

Chappel says that Mitchell Starc and other pacers can trouble Gill

Meanwhile, Chappel has also said that pacers like Starc, Hazelwood, or Scott Boland can make Gill life’s difficult during the one-off Test.

Primarily, it will be Starc and Hazelwood, but if Hazelwood doesn’t play, then it will have to be Scott Boland.

Gill has been to England before. He will struggle like anyone in English conditions if the Australians bowl well. The bowlers who will trouble him most are the ones who get that extra pace like Mitchell Starc. That can worry anyone. The extra pace gets good players out. The extra bit of bounce also gets good players out and I think if Hazelwood is fit to play then he can be a problem for Shubman. If Hazelwood doesn’t play then Boland will most likely play and he’s another bowler who can trouble anyone. He bowls a good line. He knows what a good length can be in English conditions.

Moreover, Chappel has also praised the system of the Indian cricket team that allows youngsters to play early and fosters them better than other nations.

Furthermore, Chappel has also commented that Gill is a super experienced player having played international cricket and amassing many runs in first-class cricket.
