In a recent interview, Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel was high on praise for English midfielder Ruben Loftus-Cheek. But the manager also added that the midfielder does not realize how good he is and he should not be thinking about England’s World Cup squad at the moment.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek started the 2nd leg of the quarter-finals of the Champions League against Real Madrid. Despite playing on the right side of a midfield three, Ruben Loftus-Cheek made plenty of forwarding runs and offered a lot of heart and desire in the middle of the park. The midfielder very recently returned from injury. But he looked quite high on confidence in the tie against Real Madrid.

But Thomas Tuchel talked about how Ruben Loftus-Cheek was not as confident as he looked. He said:

‘Self-confidence does not come from being big and tall and good looking,’

Thomas Tuchel did advise his player to focus on building up momentum game by game. Rather than looking and concentrating on things far away.

Thomas Tuchel’s verdict on Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Talking about Ruben Loftus-Cheek in a recent interview, Thomas Tuchel said:

“He has everything it takes to play otherwise I would not count on him. But he has heard it for so many years. He has heard it too much.’ ‘He is still in the situation where he accepts limits too early. He is used to that and this is where we are. ‘We will keep on pushing. And hopefully he can produce more of these performances without being injured because this is another part of his story.”

“I don’t want to ruin his mood but I think the last thing Ruben needs right now is to think about the World Cup, because given his history, coming through the academy, going many times, many times here. ‘Even from outside – from Germany and in Paris, all the time he was so promising. It was always “will he have his breakthrough?” and he is a certain age now and has not had his breakthrough. He is still waiting, still waiting for the next step.”

“And he lacked the stability to be on loan, [to be] the key player. He lacks this history. It’s not like he was absolutely the key player when he went on loan but he showed his potential. It is always potential.”

he added.
