He’s brilliant: Gary Neville compares Arsenal star with Wayne Rooney

Arsenal

Pundit Gary Neville recently praises Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus after his performance. Neville was lauding Arsenal talisman and even draws his comparison with the likes of Wayne Rooney. However, he also raises a question of him being the first-choice at The Emirates. The Gunners maintained a 1-1 draw at Anfield on Saturday while Jesus had a chance to score at the start. Though, the Brazilian was unable to capitalise the moment and missed his shot. Consequently, Neville believes that he should be the second-choice in the North London club.

Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus for £45m last year from Manchester City. The striker quickly became a fan-favorite and deployed Arsenal directly into the title race falling just short in the end. However, he is not a consistent goal threat. The 26-year old has only scored three goals in 13 games so far this season, which is not a very great number. Neville raves about Jesus. He even draws comparison with Wayne Rooney, Carlos Tevez but feels he is not good enough to be the first choice for the club.

I’ve found myself talking at the end of many Arsenal games this season now about whether Nketiah and Jesus are number one and two strikers in Premier League title-winning sides, or whether they’re actually more two and three strikers and they need that number one.

I actually love Jesus, I really love him. Honestly, I think he’s a brilliant player, I’d love to play with him. He’s got a bit of Rooney in him, he’s got a bit of Tevez in him, he’s got sort of everything.

But, he hasn’t got that sort of Instinct in front of goal, and sometimes, he’s everywhere you don’t want him to be.”

Arsenal will go to Christmas as the table toppers which is a huge positive looking at their attacking fluidity. However, this need to change if they want to challenge for a title. Perhaps, signing a new striker may solve some of their problems. Jesus is definitely a fine player but he is not someone who can score 20-25 goals every season. If Arsenal want to challenge for the bigger trophies in future, they must get a consistent threat at the front.
