West Brom recently appointed Steve Bruce as their new manager after the sacking of Valérien Ismaël. The club relieved the French coach of his duties after their 2-0 loss at the hands of Millwall.

Assistant managers Stephen Clemence and Steve Agnew as well as coach Alex Bruce will join Steve Bruce at his new club.

Steve Bruce is seen by some as a promotion specialist. This made him the ideal candidate for the West Brom job. Bruce signed a contract with the Baggies which will keep him at the club for 18 months.

The former Newcastle United manager has won Premier League promotion four times in his time as a manager. He promoted both Birmingham and Hull City to the Premier League twice.

Bruce, a boyhood Newcastle fan struggled at his dream job. He eventually parted from the club mutually in October of last year. He made an immediate return to management in search of his fifth Premier League promotion.

Here is what Steve Bruce said about his West Brom appointment (via SkySports):

I am delighted to have the opportunity to manage a club that has such great history and tradition. It is a club I obviously know well from my time in the Midlands, and I am already relishing the challenge of taking it forward.

I did not envisage I would return to management this quickly, but once I got the phone call from Ron (Gourlay), I knew I could not resist the challenge of getting this club back to where they want to be.

I am coming in with one aim and that is to get Albion to the Premier League.

Can Steve Bruce lead West Brom to a Premier League promotion?

West Brom were one of the favorites to win promotion at the start of the season. But so far this season, they have struggled to keep up with the likes of Fulham and Bournemouth who are the front-runners of Premier League promotion.

Two consecutive losses in the last two games and only one win in the last seven league games cost manager Valérien Ismaël his job. Their recent loss against Millwall left them 6th on the table with 45 points. Middlesbrough are breathing down their neck as they sit 7th with equal points and hold a game in hand.

Steve Bruce could become the Baggies’ hero if he manages to bring Premier League football back at the Hawthorns. He is certainly qualified for the job and has a lot of experience in the Championship.

His appointment has been received with some mixed reaction by the West Brom fans. Some are delighted with his appointment and believe he is the man for the job. While others are somewhat skeptical after his disastrous time at Newcastle.

West Brom will have a decent shot at promotion with Steve Bruce at the helm. His experience in these situations will help their cause. But only time will tell if his appointment will be a success.
