As per recent reports, David Raya has sustained an injury to his left knee that is expected to keep him out for up to five months. The Brentford goalkeeper got injured in their Premier League clash against Leicester on Sunday.

After a few days of scans and tests, it is revealed that Raya has damaged his Posterior Cruciate Ligament. This came after a collision with the Fox’s Ayoze Perez.

In the 2-1 defeat, Brentford also had to lose Bryan Mbeumo and Ethan Pinnock early in the second half. Mbeumo was taken off the pitch with a minor hamstring issue. On the other hand, Pinnock had a hip injury.

David Raya injury could give Brentford a huge setback

The Bees have displayed outstanding performance in the Premier League so far. They are 12th in the PL with 12 points. Coming from the Championship they were expected to be near the relegation zone this season. However, they have went toe to toe with top teams including Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal, and have proved that they could be one of the top teams in the competition.

Brentford have a tremendous chemistry resulting in great performances by each line on the pitch. Ivan Toney and Mbeumo efficiently complement each other in attack, while the midfield actively oscillates between attack and defence.

The most astonishing part of the team is their defence. They’ve conceded 7 goals in 8 games and 3 of those goals were in 1 match. With Raya as the shot stopper, the Bees have the 5th best defence in the league.

While Mbeumo is expected to be back in the weekend, Raya will be out for almost half the season. Summer loanee signing Alvaro Fernandez now has a huge opportunity to step up in Raya’s absence.

However, the absence of Thomas Frank’s no.1 GK will definitely sting the Bees.
