The former Arsenal forward Ian Wright was in conversation with the Kelly and Wrighty Show. Here, he seemed pleased with what he heard from Eddie Nketiah- the 22-year-old Gunner.

Eddie Nketiah voiced his inclination for making the Arsenal striker’s spot. He made a statement by scoring a brace in their important win over Chelsea. This improved Gunner’s chances of making the top four.

Mikel Arteta has found himself in a tough position for choosing his forward players this season. Andre Lacazette has been going through a lean patch. After, Aubameyang’s exit, things look more difficult for the Gunners. There is already much uncertainty with the forward position for the next season.

Eddie Nketiah’s contract ends by the end of this season. After, his promising performance against Chelsea, some feel that Nketiah could fit well in Arteta’s attacking setup.

Arsenal legend Ian Wright laments the lack of game time for Eddie Nketiah

The BBC sports pundit was happy when he heard Eddie Nketiah say that he just wants to run. Pinning hopes on the forward he himself said,

“If I can get a run of games I believe I can get the goals together to score the goals in this team [is great]”.

He lamented over the fact that Nketiah had only started twice in this current year. He went on to say that considering that Arsenal “have scored the least amount of goals in the top five”, Nketiah should have been given more chances.

However, he did point out some flaws that he had noticed in Nketiah’s play. He says,

”Can he link up play and do that? You are hoping he can as well. But what he hadn’t done was any of that. I’d not seen great movement or urgency in him to understand the opportunity that was lying right there for him to take and run with.”

Wright knows all about how to lead from the front in the Arsenal playing setup. He had also been Nketiah’s biggest supporter when he went to Leeds.

However, he also knows that the youngster also needs to strive in order to reach the next level.
