ICC apologizes for a rating error that listed India as the No. 1 Test team

As India briefly took the top place in the afternoon owing to a mistake, Australia recaptured the top spot in the ICC Test team rankings during the evening hours on February 15 (Wednesday). Following the debacle, the International Cricket Council apologized on their website.

The ICC reaffirmed that Australia remains the No. 1 Test side, while India leads the ODI and T20I rankings.

” The ICC recognises that, for a brief moment on February 15, 2023, India was incorrectly represented as the No.1 Test team on the ICC website due to a technological mistake,”

it added.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience.”

In the first Test of the four-match series, India defeated Australia by an inning and 132 runs at Nagpur. Following India’s crushing victory, the ICC ranked India as the No. 1 Test team. Incidentally, only South Africa had achieved the feat of ranking first in all formats at the same time in 2012. Unfortunately, all of the joys were dashed when the ICC changed the rankings again in the evening.
