ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 is set to commence on 15th October 2022. The tournament will be held on the defending champion’s home turf, Australia. Former England cricketer, Graeme Swann, opened up on his views on India’s aggressive approach. In a recent interview with News 18, Swann shared his opinions on Virat Kohli and weighed down India’s chances in the ICC tournament. India will take the field with extra pressure this time. Having lost a couple of major tournaments, the onus is on Team India to prove themselves again. Suspense over the absence of Jasprit Bumrah has dented India’s chances further. However, Virat Kohli’s return to form has been a massive confidence booster for the team. Virat ended his century drought in Asia Cup 2022 against Afghanistan. Surayakumar Yadav has held the middle order together. Yet, bowling remains their biggest concern.

Meanwhile, Graeme Swann has urged India to continue their aggressive approach. He also shared that pressure is on Virat Kohli to perform or else the TV rating will drop.

“I hope India go all guns blazing,” Graeme Swann

Swann expects India to continue their aggressive approach as it is the need of the hour in a format like this. If they fail to do so, others will brutally crush them in the tournament.

“I think it’s the right way to go for every team. If India don’t do that, they will get hammered by other teams who do it. In 2015 World Cup England were still playing with the conservative approach in 50-over cricket, whereas other teams in the tournament, South Africa, New Zealand and Australia went the ultra-attacking route. They absolutely crush everyone in that tournamentI hope India go all guns blazing because they need that against teams like Australia and Pakistan”

“India needs Virat Kohli to fire,” Swann wants Virat Kohli to perform well in the World Cup

Swann further added that Virat Kohli needs to fire with the bat. The Englishman elaborated on his experience working for TV and said that if the likes of Virat Kohli do not do well, the TV rating goes down massively.

“India need Virat Kohli to fire. I’ve worked for the TV side and I know there is a desperate need for Virat Kohli to do well as it was with MS Dhoni. If those guys don’t do well TV ratings go down and people get disillusioned. I want Virat Kohli to do well, when I used to play against India, I never minded Virat Kohli’s batting. I liked watching him bat up close, trust me if you think you think he looks good while batting from the stands and on TV, you should stand at a backward point or cover, it’s gorgeous to watch him bat”
