The coming years are going to be huge for Indian cricket. About three major ICC white ball events are going to be hosted or co-hosted by India from 2024-2031. Meanwhile, the neighbors Pakistan have been allowed to host the 2025 Champions Trophy.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will organize the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup along with Sri Lanka, the 2029 Men’s Champions Trophy and co-host the 2031 Men’s Cricket World Cup with Bangladesh.

The hosts for the major white ball events were announced by the International Cricket Council on Tuesday. A total of 14 countries will host all the major white-ball tournaments.

Out of the 14 nations, Eleven are Full Members while the other three are Associate Members. Thus, this comprises a total of two Cricket World Cup, four T20 World Cup and 2 Champions Trophy.

Countries to host Upcoming ICC Events

USA and Namibia will host a Cricket World Cup event for the first time in the Cricket history. On the other hand, countries like India, Australia, England, South Africa, West Indies, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand and Zimbabwe have at least once hosted these major events.

The 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup is going to be hosted by India. While for Pakistan, it will be a great moment to be able to host an ICC event after such a long time.

The host were selected with the help of a competitive bidding process. The bidding process was seen by a committee of three. They are Martin Snedden, Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Skerritt. The committee put forward all the bids and finalized the event.

The same process will be followed for the U19 and Women’s World Cup events. Meanwhile, a total of 28 countries proposed to host eight ICC men’s white-ball events.

ICC chairperson Greg Barclay said,

” We are delighted to have concluded this competitive bidding process for the first time for ICC events. To have 14 Members hosting 8 events is a reflection of the truly global nature of our sport and I’d like to thank every Member that submitted a bid and offer our congratulations to the successful bidders. It is fantastic to be returning to so many previous posts, but what is exciting about this process is the countries that will stage ICC events for the first time including the USA which is a strategic growth market for us. This allows us to deepen our connection with fans in traditional cricket nations and also reach new fans around the world.”

Pakistan to host tournament again

The last time Pakistan hosted an ICC event was the 1996 Cricket World Cup. Later in 2009, a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan bus took place and international tours were closed fully. But recently a few countries have gone to play in Pakistan. Meanwhile, the Men in Green won a Champions Trophy in 2017.

Ricky Skerritt, Cricket West Indies President and ICC Board member said,

“The success of this joint bid by CWI and USA Cricket will be a huge boost for our cricket. It offers a vital strategic opportunity to promote and develop cricket, and related commercial activity, in North America and the Caribbean…”

Over the years, cricket is slowly but steadily growing in popularity. If the growth stays the same, one day we will see a large number of countries participating in a Cricket World Cup.
