According to several reports, Inter Milan are considering offering a contract extension to their midfielder, Nicolo Barella. The Italian has still three years left in his current contract but the club wants to add two more years to his contract. Inter Milan has already tabled an offer for the midfielder to sign but the negotiations are stuck in a salary hike.
Nicolo Barella joined the Serie A giants back in 2019 which was a loan deal, later in the following year the deal was made permanent. The Italian has till now appeared 94 times for Inter Milan in which he scored 8 goals and 26 assists. While he was also a key player in the midfield last season as Inter Milan lifted the Serie A title after 10 years.
The 24-year-old carried his great form in the Euro 2020 also, as Italy won the Euro Cup this summer. And his top-notch talent in the midfield has started to attract some from top European clubs. Following this, Inter Milan wants to tie down Nicolo Barella in a long-term deal as soon as possible.
Barella’s current contract with the Italian giants runs until 2024 which means he has still three more seasons. But Inter Milan wants to add two more years in that which will make him stay until 2026. While the club is also offering a hike in his salary which will make him €4.5 million. And he is also being offered the club’s captain role after Samir Handanovic leaves Inter Milan.
What’s Nicolo Barella’s view on Inter Milan’s contract extension offer?
The 24-year-old has reportedly seen the offer which has been tabled by Inter Milan for the contract extension. And replying to that Barella has asked for more money if the club wants him to sign the contract.
Barella seems to take advantage of the situation as he knows Inter Milan considers him an important part of their future. While his recent performances in the last season has shown the club what he is capable of.
However, Inter Milan might not be considering offering him more money just now following their current financial situation. But, they could definitely offer Nicolo Barella a newly revised contract with more money later in the future. While until they have to keep an eye on which clubs are coming in contact with the midfielder.
