The exciting times of IPL seem to be just around the corner as the league might commence in the last week of March. Reports say, that BCCI and media partner Star India are in talks to finalize the schedule of IPL 15. While the BCCI is in view of beginning the carnival from March 27(Sunday), Star India wants them to settle for March 26(Saturday). Usually, the league starts on a Sunday, but this time around, that trend might be tweaked.
The reason why the broadcasting tycoons want to begin the proceedings a day earlier is simple. If the mega league starts on a Saturday, viewers will get a grand gift of a stellar weekend filled with T20 action. The series opener on Saturday followed by a double-header on Sunday is a head’s start for the new edition.
“We understand that a Saturday start helps the broadcaster to kick-start the league with a bang with three matches in the first weekend. A Sunday inauguration would not permit that. The BCCI and the broadcasters were in discussion over this and eventually, it could be on March 26,” An IPL official revealed.
IPL matches might be hosted in stadiums of Maharashtra
Reports say, that the panel of commentators has been intimated to be ready from March 19 to June 7. The BCCI is also yet to declare the venue for the league. The past 2 seasons have witnessed a lot of changes because of the ongoing pandemic. The spread of covid across the nation have dipped in the last few weeks which is a piece of big positive news for fans and aficionados.
The BCCI is all likely to hold the full-fledged league back in India unlike the last two editions. However, in order to assess and control efficiently, the league might be hosted in only a few stadiums, unlike the usual norms. The matches might be played in Wankhede, the Brabourne, DY Patil Stadium of Mumbai, and MCA Stadium of Pune. However, a final notification is awaited.
