Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich in June 2022. Since that point, however, things are not that consistent for him. He even missed the World Cup due to injury.
High expectations from Sadio Mane
Mane joined Bayern Munich from Liverpool for around 35 million. He was considered to be the replacement for Robert Lewandowski who left for FC Barcelona.
However, the injury he faced just prior to the World Cup hampered Mane’s progress. His recovery is also slow and has got a penchant for going offside.
Bayern’s coaching staff and executives had high hopes for the Senegalese forward. But however the coaching staff reported that,
“he has been losing too many one-on-one duels”.
This has been a consistent issue during training sessions.
They further added,
“Mane struggles to provide value to the team when the squad is in possession of the ball. Moreover, he might also be lacking the speed and explosiveness he had in Liverpool”.
This report went on to speculate the wear-and-tear Mane accumulated under Jurgen Klopp’s high-intensity style.
Mane scored 120 goals and bagged 48 assists in 259 games for Liverpool over all competitions.
The Bundesliga giants are concerned for Mane and doubt that he hasn’t adapted his style to combat any regressions in speed and explosiveness. He is inefficient with his chances and his lack of focus while making runs leads him into an offside position. He might also struggle with positional responsibilities.
Despite his awesome talent, Mane wasn’t a guaranteed perfect fit for Bayern. However, things could change and improve for both parties if given time.
