Former defender Jamie Carragher said that Arsenal starters are not world class. However, Carragher believes that Arsenal star Bukayo Saka can be a top player in future. Mikel Arteta has a lot to think after the games against Fulham and West Ham recently. Their defence looked shaky at times during the counters and conceded sloppy goals. Moreover, what is more concerning is their two goals in three games. Surprisingly, only one of that came from a forward player. Only Saka is worth depending as he scored six goals and six assists so far this season. Gabriel Jesus, Odegaard and Martinelli all are having a poor run this season. The trio only has nine league goals combined so far.
Speaking on Monday Night Football, Jamie Carragher seemed to hint that he only believes that one of the quartet actually has world-class potential.
“What Arsenal have got is four top players, I have no doubt about that. They are top players. The criticism we have of them is that they’re not world-class. And do I believe any of them can become world-class? I think Saka can.
But then it takes you to the point of, in the league, Liverpool won a title because they had Mo Salah, City have won titles in the past because they had Aguero. They’ve now got Erling Haaland. Is that enough for Arsenal to win a league title? Are any of them world-class right now to take Arsenal to the title? And I’d say no.”
The four Arsenal stars were phenomenal last season. Martin Odegaard and Martinelli scored 15 goals each while Jesus scored 11 goals despite injuries. Saka also managed a gold tally of 14. They still have ample amount of games to improve their stats. Everyone is well aware of the levels these players can reach. If Arsenal want to reach to silverware glory, their key players need to reach their optimum potential as soon as possible.
