In a major blow to the Indian cricket team, ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah is likely to bow out of the T20 World Cup 2022. Jasprit missed out on the last game against South Africa due to back pain. The management informed that it was just a precautionary measure. However, it seems the injury is more severe than previously anticipated.
According to a news agency, PTI, Bumrah is all set to be ruled out of the upcoming T20 World Cup after suffering from a serious back stress fracture. The pacer allegedly complained of back pain during the practice session of the ongoing bilateral series against South Africa. Neither the Indian camp nor the BCCI has confirmed the news as of now.
Jasprit Bumrah to stay out of action for 4-6 months
PTI news agency has quoted a BCCI source saying that Bumrah is ruled out of the World Cup. The source said that Bumrah’s injury is serious and he is likely to stay off the field for at least 4 to 6 months. However, it is learned that no surgery is required for the injury.
“Bumrah is not going to play the World T20 for sure. He has a serious back condition. It’s a stress fracture and he could be out for a period of six months”
Bumrah reportedly did not travel with the team to Thiruvananthapuram for the first game against South Africa. He is likely to move to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for further evaluation. A final decision will be taken only after the reports are satisfactory.
Bumrah’s injury saga continues
Jasprit Bumrah has been reeling from a recurring back injury for a while now. Earlier, he was forced to sit out of the Asia Cup 2022 owing to a back injury. He made a comeback in the Australia series but featured in only 2 of 3 games. Ever since the conclusion of the IPL 2022, Bumrah has played the least number of T20 internationals. He was rested on multiple occasions to manage his workload. Yet, the unforeseen injuries do not leave his back quite literally.
Jasprit Bumrah’s injury has come as a big blow to the men in blue. This is a second blow to the Indian camp. India’s key all-rounder, Ravindra Jadeja, has already been ruled out owing to a recurring knee injury. He underwent surgery last month. And, would not recover within the time frame of the World Cup.
Jasprit Bumrah has been India’s prime fast bowler for several years now. His deceptive action and top-notch yorkers have won India many crucial games in the past. His absence will surely hurt India the most. As of now, Mohammad Shami, Deepak Chahar, and Mohammad Siraj are the front runners to replace the pacer.
