The article lists out the potential destinations for Jesse Lingard following his Manchester United exit
Jesse Lingard is now a free agent following his exit from Manchester United. The 29-year-old’s contract with Manchester United expired on June 30th. His return to the club last summer did not work out as planned as the Englishman struggled for minutes with the Reds.
Jesse Lingard will be hoping to make a comeback in the England squad for the World Cup in Qatar later this year. To do this, he needs to join a club where playing minutes are guaranteed for the player. This article lists out some potential destinations for Lingard and the clubs which are interested in signing him.
1) WEST HAM
Lingard enjoyed a fantastic spell at West Ham whom he joined on loan from United in January 2021. In 16 appearances for the Hammers, he managed to score nine goals and provide four assists. West Ham manager David Moyes is an admirer of Lingard and has made no secret of this fact. The Hammers tried to obtain Lingard permanently last summer. However, United priced him out of a move and he had to spend his last season with them with minimal game time.
This season, West Ham have emerged as the frontrunner to sign Lingard as a free agent. However, they are not lacking in the forward position. The likes of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma enjoyed solid campaigns for the Hammers last season. Moreover, if Lingard produces the quality and numbers he did in his last season, it’ll be difficult to take his name off the first team of the Hammers.
2) Everton
Playing time should not be an issue for Lingard at Everton. As they lack quality in the attack. Dele Alli has not yet found his form for the Toffees. Lingard’s versatility and his ability to operate at the flanks mean that he can fit both players into his side. Lingard and Alli performing at their best would give the side a major boost in quality and flair.
However, Stan Collymore, former Nottingham Forest player turned Pundit has sent a crisp message to Lingard against his move to Goodison. Writing for the Mirror, Collymore said :
“Jesse Lingard needs to make a choice about his next club and stick to it so he can show he’s still the same serious footballer he was on loan at West Ham. “If he does there’s an outside chance he will gatecrash England’s World Cup squad. The alternative is that he keeps making Tik Tok videos and goes to a club such as Everton, one which appears to be falling apart at the seams, simply for money. He should choose carefully.”
Everton are also interested in signing the player this summer. The departure of Everton’s star center forward Richarlison means that Everton are lacking in the forwards department. Lingard may not be a striker, but he has a lot of versatility. He can play on either of the flanks and can also do a job as a number 10, playing just off the striker.
