Joao Felix May Be On His Way Out

Joao Felix may be out of Madrid this summer. The Portuguese wonderkid has not yet achieved the heights expected of him after his move to Atletico from Benfica in 2019. An exit might be on the cards. North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal are the most interested parties.

Joao Felix came with high hopes and a price tag equally as high. He took the world by storm in his native Portugal. Felix, a standout for Atletico Madrid, is apparently available, and Diego Simeone has supposedly changed his mind about the striker.

The Spanish powerhouses thought Felix was untouchable. But BarcaTimes report that Diego Simeone has recently changed his mind. The Portugal international has emerged as an appealing prospect, with both of the north London rivals looking for players to improve their respective frontlines this summer.

Arsenal are in need of attacking reinforcements. They let Pierre Emerick Aubameyang leave the club in January, and Alexander Lacazette left after the conclusion of his contract. A big-name signing like Felix can be an improvement and a statement signing too.

What Is Felix Worth

Tottenham too are in the race. Apparently, Atletico are interested in their midfielder Giovani Lo Celso. The Argentine playmaker impressed on loan at Villareal last season, and wants to continue over there. However, if Villareal are unable to match Spurs’ price tag, Simeone may wish to bring his compatriot to the Wanda Metropolitano.

Atletico will, however, be aware of the financial implications of this deal. Felix was signed for huge money: a reported 126 million Euros. They would not like to sell him for a low price.  With Giovani Lo Celso in the mix, Spurs can bring down the price a little bit. But nevertheless, it will still cost a lost of financial resources to bring him to N17.

Perhaps Felix has not found the freedom to express himself and play to his strengths under the pragmatic Simeone. Maybe a change of scenery is what he needs to fulfil his true potential.
