According to The Telegraph, Manchester United are interested in signing John McGinn from Aston Villa. John McGinn has been a very important player to the club in recent years. Aston Villa has become a top-flight club and now they also have to handle and keep their players away from other clubs’ interests. The Lions recently made a sale of £100 million by selling Jack Grealish to Manchester City.

United looks forward to signing the player for a fee of £40 million. However, Villa would be hesitant about the deal as losing another important player will not help the club. Steven Gerrard has also used McGinn very frequently which shows that the former Rangers manager does have McGinn in his plans. McGinn is the vice-captain of Aston Villa which let alone explains his commitment to the Clarets.

The Scottish midfielder has three and a half years left on his contract which is a bit of concern for some clubs who are interested in signing the midfielder. McGinn admires Steven Gerrard and wants to play for the Liverpool legend. McGinn remains committed to improving and learning a lot more. He had this to say to talkSPORT,

“What he [Gerrard] is, is a top-class manager, very honest and very fair. What we do have in common, we’ve obviously had very different paths in football, but what we both have in common is we both play, or played in midfield, and we both want to win.”

“So it’s an easy relationship from there, and I’m just trying to learn from him and Gary McAllister as well, two top midfielders, and trying to improve as a player. I’ve still got a lot to learn and we’re working closely together to try and get the best for the club and for myself.”

Why Aston Villa should not deal with Manchester United and keep John McGinn?

John McGinn is a technical player who has helped Aston Villa on various occasions to get a result for them. He is a player who gets fouled often and has a very good passing range. He connects the defense and the attack while mostly helping in the forward department. His main strengths of the game are his passing, long shots, and dribbling skills.

John McGinn has made 22 appearances for Aston Villa in all competitions this season. He has scored three goals and assisted twice. Moreover, he takes 1.4 shots, completes 1.4 key passes while also completing 1.3 dribbles per game. He also attempts 3.3 long balls, completes 3 tackles while winning 2 fouls per game (stats via whoscored).

These are very good stats for an Aston Villa player. In addition, Gerrard has also expressed his praise for John McGinn on a few occasions. The Villa fans feel lucky to have a player like John McGinn at their club. He is certain to draw more attention from other big clubs of the league as well. However, keeping the Scottish and building a team around him seems like the way to go for Villa.

A good quality will always attract interest from other clubs. This is a test of Aston Villa now as a top-flight club. The board and the manager must do their best to keep a player like McGinn’s quality. However, it is understandable why United went for John McGinn as their midfield woes still continue. John McGinn brings a different kind of style and gameplay to the squad than what Manchester United already has.
