Journalist query irks Rohit Sharma during World Cup squad 2023 announcement. The press conference took place in Kandy, Sri Lanka.

JOURNALIST QUERY

In the middle of the Asia Cup, India announced their World Cup Squad on September 5. Indian cricket team chief selector Ajit Agarkar and Indian team skipper Rohit Sharma declared the 15-member squad. The 15-member team consists of the same players currently existing in the Asia Cup apart from Tilak Verma, Prasidh Krishna, and the traveling reserve Sanju Samson.

Meanwhile, a Journalist’s query about the atmosphere surrounding the India-Pakistan games annoyed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma.

The Journalist question was

“whenever India plays against Pakistan, if India aren’t able to do well, an environment is created….”

While getting interrupted by the media manager, the reporter continued to ask his question, justifying it as an apt question for the World Cup.

He further asked that

“But we’ve seen in the 2015 and 2019 World Cups, that whenever we have played (against Pakistan), we have done well”, he continued. “What do you have to say about the environment that is created from the outside?”

Reacting to the inquiry, Rohit Sharma stated

“How many times do I say this? Whatever happens outside doesn’t affect us. Our job is something else. Our job isn’t to understand the “environment” outside or play according to it. All players are professionals. All these players have seen this already. I don’t think it makes a huge difference”

Rohit Sharma further added

And don’t ask me these questions at the World Cup, when we do a press conference in India – “This environment, that” etc. I won’t answer these questions. Because it doesn’t make sense to keep talking about it. Our focus is something else, and we would like to, as a team, focus on that particular thing”
