Mata has played for Manchester United under various different managers and has experienced ups and downs with the Red Devils. But his game time over the last two seasons has decreased quite drastically. He only made 18 appearances in all competitions last term.

The Spaniard has been a loyal servant to the club. During his seven years at the club, he has made 262 appearances for the Premier League giants. In this time he has recorded 51 goals and set up a further 47 goals for his teammates (stats via Transfermarkt).

With his contract with the red devils up at the end of the season, Mata is considering his future at the club. Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst has reported that the veteran ‘would be open’ to leave Manchester in the January transfer window. Reports also suggest that Mata would ideally like a move back to Spain in the January transfer window.

More midfield woes for Manchester United if Juan Mata leaves in January?

Manchester United have midfield concern this term but that could turn into major problems next term. Paul Pogba’s future is still up in the air with the French World cup winner showing no signs of signing a new long-term deal at the club.

While attacking midfielder, Jesse Lingard is also out of contract next summer and is looking for a move away from the club in the January transfer window. West Ham United and Newcastle United are keen on the English attacking midfielder

Donny van de Beek is still struggling for regular playtime and has failed to cement his spot in the starting line for the red devils. Even after Ralf Rangnick’s arrival, the midfielder has struggled for minutes and made most of his appearances off the bench. Now with Juan Mata open to leaving the club in January, the club needs to act fast before the midfield woes turn into a crisis at the club.
