Chelsea are reportedly planning a move for Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham in the summer of 2022.

The 18-year-old has been on high alert for top clubs across Europe. Chelsea and Manchester United were linked with a move for Bellingham before he joined Borussia Dortmund from Birmingham City last summer. He still has four years left on his contract at Signal Iduna Park. However, transfer insider Dean Jones thinks Bellingham could be on his way to Chelsea next year.

“Jude Bellingham’s been on Chelsea’s radar for the past year or so. And I think that situation is one they’ll start to explore further in the new year”, Jones said to football.london

“He’s signed a new contract at Dortmund, but he’ll know that Dortmund are a selling club if you’re willing to put up the right price, so I think they’ll start a get an idea in the new year about what his valuation is, what the pros and cons are of him versus (Declan) Rice, and what kind of money they’re going to have to spend on those two players.”

What can Bellingham bring to Chelsea?

Bellingham is the youngest ever player to feature for Birmingham City at the age of 16 years and 38 days old. He is also the youngest player to score for Birmingham City at 16 years and 63 days. Bellingham’s transfer from Birmingham City to Borussia Dortmund set a world record transfer fee for a 17 year old when it happened. Upon Bellingham’s departure to Borussia Dortmund, Birmingham City retired the no.22 shirt in recognition of him and to inspire others.

The England international has already scored one goal and provided two assists in three games in the Bundesliga this campaign. He made 46 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions last season.

Tuchel’s side sees Jorginho’s and N’Golo Kante’s contracts expire at the end of next season and are 29 and 30-years-old respectively. Bellingham’s youthful exuberance could add something different to that Chelsea midfield.
