Memphis Depay may still move to Juventus on deadline day, according to Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb.
Juventus recently signed Arkadiusz Milik to their team. It appears that they decided against moving for Memphis Depay in favour of the Polish international. The Bianconeri spent days negotiating a deal with the Dutchman’s side because they wanted him. He was also interested in the move.
Depay and Barcelona intended to mutually terminate his contract so as to allow him to leave easily. The Old Lady would then purchase him as a free agent. Memphis Depay is unlikely to get a lot of minutes this season after the signing of Robert Lewandowski. This will not be ideal for him, especially in a World Cup season.
However, talks between the two camps broke down. Juventus needed a striker, so they opted to sign Milik in the end. It seemed to have poured cold water on the fate of Depay. However, if reports are to be believed, Juventus are willing to sign the former Lyon star alongside Milik.
Will Juve Sign Depay?
Milik can improve the team’s calibre and depth for sure. But the top clubs in the world have a large number of players who can play a variety of roles. Depay is one of them, who can play in a number of positions.
The team’s depth will be augmented with the addition of Depay, therefore they shouldn’t pass up the chance to do so. However, it must be stipulated in a way which is financially viable.
Juventus have had a couple of rough seasons. They lost their streak of league wins, and have started the latest season poorly as well. An injury to Paul Pogba has made matters even worse. They will hope that their additions in Milik and possibly Depay can bring them back on track.
