Kai Havertz could be sold to avoid trouble with Financial Fair Play

Kai Havertz could part ways with Chelsea to avoid trouble with Financial Fair Play. Chelsea have already signed six players this month. Despite of improving several areas of the Chelsea team, Todd Boehly is showing no signs of slowing down. He is competing with the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City for Brighton’s Moises Caicedo. Chelsea is also ready to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for Sporting Lisbon’s Pedro Porro. And if Tottenham fails to bag the deal, Chelsea are ready to pounce on that opportunity. The Blues are hoping to move up the Premier League table with the help of these players. However, they do need to offload a few players in order to avoid getting in trouble with Financial Fair Play. Reports had already suggested Raheem Sterling be one such player to be sold. Kai Havertz is another name that has emerged as a possible option.

Chelsea could sell Kai Havertz to reduce their financial burden

Reports had suggested the Chelsea winger Raheem Sterling be one such player who could be sold. However, Kai Havertz have joined the list in being tipped off to depart the Blues. According to German reporter Florian Plettenberg, he could be put on sale for €60m later this year. The reporter claimed,

“The fees Chelsea are spending are incredible and a lot of clubs in Germany can only dream of having this capability. But we don’t have these sorts of numbers of here. Chelsea’s spending is very much a headline over here because it can have an indirect impact on German clubs. When you consider the salaries and the contract durations, the feeling is that Chelsea will be a big player in the summer market over here. Thinking of Kai Havertz, he could be a player who doesn’t have faith in the squad at Chelsea and could make another step.”

He further continues,

“I’ve heard that Kai is very happy with the Chelsea boss [Potter] at this stage and he’s very ambitious but I’ve heard there could be a transfer in the summer for around €60m. We’ll have to see where he fits into the new Chelsea. But we’re also hearing that Bayern Munich are not interested in signing him.”

It looks like Kai Havertz is a fan of Graham Potter but have some questions about the current Chelsea team. He might feel his place in the squad is under a bit of a threat with the arrival of new players. Joao Felix in particular may threaten Havertz’s position in the team. As Plettenberg states, German clubs have less financial spending power than any English club. Therefore, there are very few clubs that can actually match the ask for Kai Havertz.
