Kai Havertz signing: Is it paying off for Arsenal?

During the summer transfer window, Arsenal manager Arteta made a decision that surprised many people. He approved a £65 million transfer for Kai Havertz, a player who had not made many significant contributions during his time at Chelsea, apart from scoring the winning goal in the 2021 Champions League final. Around the same time, Arsenal allowed veteran Granit Xhaka to leave for Bayer Leverkusen. This move often saw Kai Havertz playing in a deeper midfield role for Arsenal, a position different from what he’s used to. Unfortunately, this experiment hasn’t been very successful, with Havertz only managing to score one goal and provide one assist so far this season.

How things stand for Arsenal as of now?

Despite Kai Havertz’s slow start, Arsenal has been performing well in the league. Arsenal manager Arteta said that it is a team effort and didn’t want to blame any single player when they asked about Kai Havertz’s struggles. During a press conference on Friday, he said,

I’m not going to put it on any individual. We are a team.”

However, Arsenal recently faced a setback in the League Cup, with Kai Havertz playing the full 90 minutes in a match against West Ham that they couldn’t win. This has put more importance on their next league match against Newcastle. Arteta hopes that his team can return to their winning ways, and if they do, they could move ahead of their rivals Tottenham in the Premier League standings before a crucial match against Chelsea on Monday.

In simple terms, Arsenal spent a lot of money to bring in Kai Havertz, but he hasn’t performed as much as expected. This is despite the team doing quite well in the league. Their recent loss in the League Cup has made their upcoming league match against Newcastle even more crucial. If they win that match, they might move ahead Tottenham in the league standings before a big game against Chelsea.
