Chelsea and Napoli have come to an agreement regarding the veteran centre back

Chelsea have boosted their defense considerably this season by signing the veteran center-back Kalidou Koulibaly from Napoli. According to Fabrizio Romano, Koulibaly has joined Chelsea on a deal worth €40m. The Senegalese central defender becomes the second signing of Chelsea under the Todd Boehly consortium. Raheem Sterling, who has already joined Chelsea for their pre-season, is the first signing of the Boehly-Clarke era. Fabrizio Romano has said in his tweet:

“Kalidou Koulibaly, landed in London and set for medical tests then he will fly to Los Angeles to join the team – plan 100% confirmed, then Chelsea will unveil Kalidou as new signing. Napoli and Chelsea are checking and signing the contracts right now.”

Kalidou Koulibaly plays as a central defender for the Italian club Napoli. He has signed a four-year contract worth around £160,000 per week to complete his move to Stamford Bridge. Koulibaly is the captain of the Senegalese national team and has earned 62 caps for his country. Moreover, the player was also on the radar of Juventus and had one year left on his contract with Napoli.

Koulibaly is the first brick to reinforce Chelsea’s defensive wall

Chelsea have been on the lookout for a defensive replacement following major exits in their defense. Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger left Chelsea on free transfers this summer. They joined Barcelona and Real Madrid respectively. To overcome this deficit they have been on the market to sign a central defender. It seems as though they are successful now, Koulibaly has agreed to join Chelsea this summer.

Koulibaly is a solid defender. He is consistent and reliable. Moreover, he is a perfect addition to the team under Tuchel. Koulibaly made 300 appearances for Napoli before joining Chelsea. He was a clinical player for Napoli. Additionally, he has been named in the Serie A team of the year on four occasions. He was also named the best defender of Serie-A in 2019.

Moreover, the Blues have no plans of stopping now. They are heavy in pursuit of other players as well. They are reportedly on the verge of reaching an agreement with City over Nathan Ake. Also, Tuchel is keen to sign Presnel Kimpembe of PSG who is free to leave France this year.
