Koulibaly doesn’t look like the player he once was at Napoli

Chelsea star defender Kalidou Koulibaly doesn’t look like the player he once was but Chelsea are looking to safeguard him.

The Senegalese player was signed from Napoli in the summer transfer window but the defender has struggled to adapt to his new life in Premier League.

Before moving to Stanford Bridge, the 31-year-old was consider as one of the best defenders in Europe. In Napoli, Koulibaly represented excitement, stability, and a sense of calm which are all lacking in his game after moving to England.

Now, Transfer Pundit Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the defender might leave the club in the future. He further said on CaughtOffside via his Substack column:-

“Kalidou Koulibaly is not the same player we saw at Napoli for many years, he was incredible in Serie A and he’s still adapting to the Premier League.

I’m told Chelsea still want to protect him and he was never close to Inter or any other club in January.

Let’s see in the summer.”

Koulibaly has played only half a season for Chelsea and judging him for this short stint will be quite cruel. Adapting to Premier League life is quite difficult and sometimes it might take two to three years for a player to cope.

And with the inclusion of Benoît Badiashile in January and Thiago Silva signing a new contract, there will be a decrease in-game time for Koulibaly.

But Chelsea considers the Senegalese as an important player and his experience at the back line can prove crucial for the club’s future ahead.
