Norwich City is reportedly considering Derby County shot-stopper Kelle Roos as a January transfer option. Norwich City is looking to strengthen its goalkeeping position in the winter transfer window.
According to Football Insider, The Premier League club is one of the three clubs monitoring the Derby keeper.
They are also the only Premier League club keeping tabs on him, the other two being Championships’ Fulham and Bournemouth.
Derby has been in turmoil since going into administration. And there are rumors of players wanting to jump ship in the coming transfer windows, Roos being one of them.
The Dutch goalkeeper only has one year remaining on his contract which makes him a free agent next summer. The clubs will want to exploit Derby, by taking advantage of their financial issues and the player’s contract situation.
Roos has been a silver lining for the Rams despite them being at the bottom of the league. He has been decent between the sticks, making 16 appearances in the Championship, and conceding 17 goals. He has 5 clean sheets to his name so far this season.
The 29-year-old moved to Derby back in 2014 and spent his early years out on loan. He spent time at Rotherham, AFC Wimbledon, Port Vale, and Plymouth before coming back to Derby in 2017 and cementing a place in the first team.
Will Kelle Roos make the switch to Norwich in the January transfer window?
Roos has been a decent signing for the Rams. Making 87 appearances for the Derby side. But now that Derby’s relegation seems inevitable, this might be the right time to move on to something else.
Norwich wants the Dutchman to create competition between their goalkeeping ranks. Roos will be competing with fellow Dutchman Tim Krul for game time.
Norwich is also at the bottom of the league with a very slim chance at survival. They could be heading down to Championship next year as well.
Derby manager Wayne Rooney has made it clear he does not want to lose any players in the January transfer window. But the Rams may just cut their losses and decide to sell Roos instead of losing him for free in the summer.
The Dutchman may have to wait till next summer to get his move, but it looks like he will get his move sooner or later as he has not expressed any desire to sign a new contract.
A move to Fulham or Bournemouth may seem more appealing to Roos right now as the two clubs are on their way up to the Premier League while Norwich is sliding down to the Championship.
