The world costliest goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is finding it difficult to accept his role at Chelsea. Playing as a second choice to Edouard Mendy in the goalkeeping position Kepa is unhappy with less game time at Chelsea. Following this frustration, the Spaniard has spoke loudly to make it hear to his manager Thomas Tuchel for doing something about the situation.

Kepa Arrizabalaga arrived at Chelsea from Athletic Club back in 2018 with a price tag of  £71 million, making him the costliest goalkeeper. However, seeing his performances for the Blues the label of costliest goalkeeper could not be justified. As a result, Chelsea had to invest money in another goalkeeper signing Edouard Mendy from Stade Rennais in 2020.

Chelsea signing Mendy, made it clear that Kepa was about to lose his first spot in the team. And the same happened, as from that moment to the current times Mendy is the first-choice goalkeeper. Following which Kepa had been sidelined sitting in the bench waiting for one opportunity to start in daily games.

But the Spaniard couldn’t cope up with the frustration as he spoke about his current role in a radio interview. He said,  “Everyone wants to play. Everyone wants to be in the starting line up on Saturday and Sunday. “You need to assume your role at that point. Help as best you can. During the week, on a daily basis, push to the maximum. Doing it for you, not for anyone else. To keep improving and to be ready when given the opportunity or for any circumstance.”

Following this interview, we can see how frustrated and sad Kepa is about his current role at Chelsea. The Spaniard is tied with a contract until 2023 with Blues but might push for a transfer given his current situation.

Kepa Arrizabalaga Chelsea’s UEFA Super Cup hero

As Chelsea won the Champions League season and Villareal the Europa League in 2020-21 both were to play Super cup match. Chelsea made a great start in the first half as Hakim Ziyech opened the scoring in 27th minute. However, the goal was canceled by Gerard Moreno in 73rd minute, and it was 1-1 until the full time.

it was time for extra time, but nothing changed in those 30 minutes as the scoreline remained the same. In the meantime, Chelsea brought on Kepa in the 119th minute. Thomas Tuchel made the decision of appointing Kepa to save the penalties as he has a better record than Mendy.

And doing the said job Kepa made two saves against Villareal in the penalty shootout to make Chelsea the winners of the Super Cup. Kepa being the super sub was the man of the moment for the Chelsea fans and Thomas Tuchel.
