Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has backed opener KL Rahul, who has been struggling with poor form with the bat recently. Rahul has been facing pressure due to a series of low scores in the Bangladesh series. Despite the pressure, he was picked ahead of Shubman Gill for the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy but has failed to make a mark so far, scoring just 38 runs in three innings.

former cricketers unhappy with KL’s performance

Several former cricketers have questioned Rahul’s place in the Indian team. However, both Rahul Dravid, the head coach, and Rohit Sharma, the captain, have backed him despite his underwhelming form.

During a post-match conference after India’s six-wicket win over Australia in Delhi on February 19, Rohit said, “When you are playing on pitches like these, you need to find your methods of scoring runs.” He added that different individuals in the team would have different methods of scoring runs and urged KL Rahul to devise his own method of scoring on spinning surfaces in India.

Rohit also emphasized the importance of everyone in the team coming together for a big series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. He acknowledged that there has been talking around Rahul’s form recently, but the team would continue to back him.

Rohit on talks around KL Rahul

“Of late, there has been a lot of talk on his batting. But for us as team management, we always look at the potential of any individual, not just KL. If a guy has potential, guys will get that extended run.”

Rohit said.

Rohit praised Rahul’s contribution to the team and pointed out his big knocks in England and South Africa recently, where he scored a couple of centuries that helped India win the games. “That is the potential he has,” Rohit said. India’s win over Australia in Delhi has given them a 2-0 lead in the series. The third Test will take place in Indore from March 1 to March 5.

To Conclude, Rohit Sharma has backed KL Rahul despite his poor form with the bat. He urged Rahul to find his own method of scoring runs and emphasized the importance of everyone in the team coming together for a big series like the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Rohit also praised Rahul’s past performances and the potential he has. With India having a 2-0 lead in the series, the pressure is on KL Rahul to deliver in the third Test.
