Kris Srikkanth criticizes Shardul Thakur’s selection in the World Cup 2023 Indian squad. Shardul Thakur is also part of the Indian team in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023.

KRIS SRIKKANTH UNHAPPY WITH BCCI’S DECISION

The prominent feature of the 1983 World Cup winning team, Kris Srikkanth, is unhappy with the preference of Shardul Thakur in the team for the upcoming World Cup.

Shardul is a fast bowler and can equally indulge in slicing big shots in the end as the role of an all-rounder. Moreover, he is to lend a helping hand to Hardik Pandya with both fast bowling and batting at the end.

However, according to former legend Kris Srikkanth, Shardul Thakur’s presence in the Indian team won’t count as anything more significant. He further highlighted that Shardul doesn’t even bowl for ten overs, and neither is he scoring runs coming at number eight.

Kris Srikkanth in an interview with Star Sports stated

“Everyone is saying we need a batter at No. 8…who needs a batter at No. 8? Shardul Thakur is only scoring 10 there and he doesn’t even bowl for ten overs. In the match against Nepal, how many overs did he bowl? 4 only. See, don’t see performances against sides like West Indies or Zimbabwe. Yes if he performs well, then keep that in the back of your mind, but don’t give importance to that. Instead stress on performances against teams like Australia or New Zealand. That is why I say, don’t get fooled by overall averages, always look at individual matches”

Kris Srikkanth also added

“Look at the 2011 World Cup squad. Shall I say who were the reserves? There were two spinners – R Ashwin and Piyush Chawla and one medium pacer in Munaf Patel, along with one batter in Yusuf Pathan”
