Lazio Look Toward Lucas Torreira

Arsenal have offered Italian club Lazio a chance to sign Lucas Torreira. The midfielder spent last season on loan at Fiorentina, but they decided not to sign the Uruguayan international. The point of disagreement was apparently Torreira’s agent fees. His demands were too high, which led to La Viola pulling the plug on a permanent deal.

Torreira clearly does not have a future at Arsenal. He added steel and energy to the Gunners’ midfield. Torreira had impressive performances against Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool, which got him a lot of deserved praise.

However, Emery’s successor Mikel Arteta had reservations about Torreira’s ball-playing ability. A loan to Atletico Madrid was arranged, and then to Fiorentina the following summer.

The Uruguayan impressed during his time in Italy, but now due to issues in the negotiation, he will have to look elsewhere. He has a year left on his Arsenal contract, and they would be looking for a sale this window. This would allow them to recoup some of the 25 million pounds they paid for him.

Torreira to Lazio: Done Deal?

Reports from Corriere dello Sport state that Lucas Torreira has been offered to Lazio manager Maurizio Sarri. Lazio were apparently one of the clubs in the race for him but were beaten by Fiorentina. Sarri’s predecessor Simeone Inzaghi too had expressed a desire to get the ex-Atletico man. Now it looks like the Rome outfit have a chance to lay hands on their long-term target.

Lazio would however prefer a loan move with an option to buy. The situation still needs time to develop, and we can get a clearer idea in the next few days. Fiorentina may re-enter the negotiation too if they consider the agent commissions to be worth it for a player like Torreira.
